 CONFIRMS IS THAT OUR MINDS AND BODIES

 ARE BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL SYSTEMS 

 ORGANIZED AROUND A PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

 KEEPING US SAFE

 "Healing is show, not tell." 

With my extensive work in somatics, polyvagal theory and trauma training, one of my core beliefs is that the primary reason for most of our unhappiness, stuckness, struggles in relationships and pain is unhealed trauma.

 

It’s not actually about an event, it’s about how that event caused an over stimulation of energy in our bodies. If we didn’t have safety after the event ended, that energy is often stored and lived out in our present day experiences. That’s trauma.

 What is trauma? 

 How is this experienced? 

Via our bodies. In our reactions, responses, behaviors, feelings, patterns causing you pain and in the stuckness you’re experiencing. 

Another core belief that science confirms is that our minds and bodies are brilliant, beautiful systems organized around a primary purpose: keeping us safe.

These parts are trying to help you. They don’t know that what happened in the past is over. They think it’s still happening now.

 

You experience their help in the form of the stuckness, pain, overwhelm, etc. in your life now.

HOW IS THAT PROTECTING YOU?

 HERE'S HOW! 

You have a beautiful threat detector in your brain. Its job is to constantly look for danger. If past traumas have yet to be fully healed, this threat detector will see anything similar to that past trauma as dangerous. IE…authority figures, receiving, people, being seen, intimacy, ect.

 

It then communicates to your autonomic nervous system and says, “I detect danger!” To which your Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) responds, “Not a problem friend, I’m here to protect!” and comes to your aid in the form of either fight/flight/freeze/shut down. You experience these things as anxiety, frustration, fear, anger, agitation, hopelessness, numbness, depression, etc.

 

These parts create a beautiful self-protective circuit. And include feelings, sensations, behaviors and thoughts, all working together to keep you safe.

 You’re probably thinking, “but I am safe now! Why don’t they get that?!” 

That comes to another core belief of mine which science also confirms, we have to show our protective parts we are safe, not just tell them. Ever wonder why you don't feel better when you tell yourself to "just calm down" or "everything is fine"? 

That’s because your Autonomic Nervous System and the parts of your brain online when you are activated (mid brain and reptilian brain), do not understand cognition or language. Words do not compute to these parts of ourselves.  

I came into this work because I found myself stuck in a place you might be finding yourself in. Having done hours of researching, studying, reading, “retreating,” beautiful years in talk therapy and yet you’re still not living the life you want to be living.

 

Somatic healing work is what’s needed. To release stored trauma, regulate your nervous system, come into secure attachments in your relationships, integrate your inner child(ren) and live the full life meant for you.

That’s the work I do. And I’d love to do it with you.
